Restrictions Imposed, Muharram Processions Foiled in Srinagar

Amid restrictions in Srinagar parts, dozens of Mourners were detained by Government Forces in Srinagar ahead of Muharram when they tried to take out a procession on Tuesday.

Eywitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that dozens of youth who tried to take out a procession near Jahangir Chowk were stopped and taken into detention.

They said that the Police used force against the youth to prevent them from marching ahead.

Meanwhile restrictions have been imposed in several areas of Srinagar to prevent any Muharram processions in the capital city.

Officials said that restrictions have been imposed in TRC, Dalgate, Maisuma, Abi Guzar, Dalgate, Gaw Kadal, Budshah bridge, and Kralkhud areas of Srinagar.

Earlier, the Jammu Kashmir administration had announced that Muharram procession will be allowed to carry out this year after 30 years.

The move was, however, questioned by the Shia leaders, the administration stated that concerned Deputy Commissioners will take a call accordingly after reviewing the situation.
