The Jammu Kashmir High administration recently declared the Roshni Land act (2001) implemented by the then Jammu Kashmir Government as null and void.
Days after the High court order, the administration published the names of various political personalities including Farooq Abdullah and accused them to have occupied land in Jammu under the garb of the Roshni act, in what has been called scam now.
As more lists of prominent personalities continue coming up, the administration has served notice to a family in the South Kashmir township of Anantnag and asked them to vacate the place immediately.
Farooq Ahmed Jan, a resident of Nazuk Mohalla in the heart of the Anantnag township in South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) district was allotted two Marlas of land under the 2001 Act during the PDP-Congress Coalition Government in 2007.
Farooq said that he acquired the land through a proper procedure and also paid an amount of 95,000 for the registration of the land measuring two Marlas.
“I have built a house on this piece of land and also some rented shops to feed my family,” Farooq said.
A driver by profession, Farooq said that he has done nothing illegal. adding, “I visited the concerned Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office but couldn’t meet the officials as they are busy with the ongoing DDC elections.”
Meanwhile, despite repeated attempts, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag Kuldeep Krishan Sidha couldn’t be contacted for comments as he didn’t receive the phone calls. With Inputs from KNO
