‘Russia-Ukraine Crisis’ – Panic among Kashmiri students, Demand speedy evacuation

On Thursday, the situation between Russia and Ukraine escalated, leading to rising concern about the Kashmiri students stuck in Ukraine.

Nasir Khuehami, president of the Jammu Kashmir Students’ Association, took to Twitter and said that he spoke to Kashmiri students studying in Ukraine and that he was informed that the situation was completely fine until a few days ago and that the University classes were going on in offline mode, as per the norm.

However, today in the wee hours, around 5 am, Gunshots were heard. The noise of which led them to get up from sleep. And since then the situation was not normal and there was uncertainty all around.

A student told him that they are in the city of Kharkiv, which is about 30 km away from the border. “As soon as the firing started, I called my friends to assemble in my apartment and decide what to do,” said the student.

He said that all of the friends had gathered in one apartment. There was no official advisory from the University vis-à-vis their evacuation, yet.

“In Kharkiv city of Ukraine, we are about 15-20 students. In entire Ukraine, there would be around 200 students in total. We want quick and earliest evacuation of ours,” said the students.
