Saudi Army resumes attacks in northern Yemen

With the onset of Ramdhan, Saudi army has renewed its attacks on the border areas in Saada province, northern Yemen.

As per Yemeni media, Saudi artillery shelling targeted various areas of the border district of Sheda in Saada.

Significantly, these attacks coincide with the U.S-U.K airstrikes on Yemen, in response to their support for Palestine, marked by the interception of military aid ships destined for Israel in the Red Sea. Despite over a dozen coalition strikes on Yemen, the coalition has proven ineffective in halting Yemeni assaults on these ships.

The border areas of Saada are subjected to continuous attacks by the Saudi army, resulting in the killing and wounding of thousands of civilians and massive destruction of property.

According to The Humanity Eye Center for Rights and Development, a Yemeni rights organisation, “the Saudi-led coalition has killed and injured more than 3,000 civilians, including women and children, by airstrikes against the people of Yemen.”

According to the report, “there were 3,083 casualties as a result of the Saudi coalition’s campaign on Yemen in 2022.” (643 killed and 2,440 wounded).

The centre reported that “more than 100 children and 27 women were among those dead.”

The aggression “targeted 14,367 residences and university institutions, 134 mosques, 5 tourist attractions, 12 hospitals and health facilities, as well as the Saudi coalition targeting Sanaa International Airport, Hodeidah port, and 22 power stations and generators,” according to the organisation.

The report also listed “64 schools and educational facilities, 1,987 fields for agriculture, two sports venues, three archaeological sites, and seven media facilities.”

“4 industries, 13 gasoline tankers, and 229 commercial enterprises, as well as the targeting of 46 networks and communication stations, 334 reservoirs and water stations, 57 government institutions, 974 highways, and bridges,” the report noted.

According to the research, “29 poultry and animal farms, 1,022 vehicles, and 3 fishing boats were targeted, in addition to 37 grocery stores, 5 marketplaces, and 95 food trucks over the year 2022.”

The organisation recorded the Yemeni victims from the start of the Saudi-led invasion of the nation seven years ago during a news briefing earlier in March.

The Eye of Humanity Center for Rights and Development reported at the time that during the seven years of the Saudi-led coalition’s aggression on Yemen, there had been 46,262 civilian casualties as a result of direct bombing, including 17,734 fatalities, including 4017 children, 2434 women, and 11,283 men, and 28,528 injuries, including 4,586 children, 2,911 women, and 10,032 men.

In November, the United Nations reported that there were 343 civilians killed or injured as a result of landmine and unexploded ordnances during the six-month UN-backed ceasefire
