The President of the People’s Democratic Party and the Former Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti Sunday lashed out at the BJP Led Government over the latest series of a crackdown launched in the valley.
More than 21 people were arrested in connection with pro-Palestine protests and later in the evening, the Police arrested two sons of the former Hurriyat chairman, Ashraf Sehrai. Sehrai died while in detention last week in a hospital in Jammu.
The former chief Minister denouncing the arrests said that the Public Safety Act (PSA) is the only method undertaken to handle every problem in Kashmir.
Ms. Mufti said that both the sons of Ashraf Sehrai who lost their father in custody due to inadequate medical care & have been arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, the PDP president said, “People all over the world are protesting against the atrocities committed by Israel on Palestine. But in Kashmir, it’s a punishable offence where an artist is booked under PSA & a preacher is arrested simply for expressing solidarity with Palestinians.”

In the thread, Ms Mufti further said, “Kashmir is an open-air prison where people’s thoughts are being monitored & they are punished for it. There is no outlet left to express one’s opinion & this is a deliberate attempt to push Kashmiris to the wall.”
“PSA is GOI’s go-to method for every problem. The latest example being Ashraf Sehrai’s sons who lost their father in custody due to inadequate medical care & have been arrested under PSA. In the rest of India dead are being ill-treated but in Kashmir, it’s the living who are made to suffer. Expressing solidarity with Palestine is no crime,” the PDP president said.
