A shutdown was observed in several parts Srinagar on Friday over the derogatory remarks made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokespersons against the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).

Reports said that shops and business establishments were shut in the Lal Chowk area of the city and its vicinity, besides traffic movement was thin in the summer capital of Jammu Kashmir.

The insulting comments were made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Spokespersons Nupur Sharma over a live TV show which evoked condemnation from Gulf and other countries.

Pertinently, a shutdown was observed in the area last Friday too. Several protests were staged across Kashmir demanding the arrest of the BJP member.
