After a complete halt of political activity in Jammu Kashmir, since the August 05, last year, when the partial special status of Jammu Kashmir was abrogated, the Government of India is planning to release six political leaders, highly placed sources in the Government said.
After the Government of India abrogated the special status, the major political leaders including three former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir were detained along with hundreds of others, some including journalists, business leaders and lawyers were flown to Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
On Wednesday, the Public Safety Act Detention order of Shah Faesal, the former administrative official turned Politician, Sartaj Madni and Peer Mansoor of Mehbooba Mufti led People’s democratic party has been revoked.
Highly placed sources informed The Kashmiriyat that the three politicians who had been arrested on August 05, last year may be released anytime from now.
They also said that discussions about the release of other political detainees including sic major politicians are taking place at different levels. “The government must soon release the Political leaders,” the former chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir, Omar Abdullah had said.
Omar Abdullah said the detention of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti was “callous and cruel” and hoped that she will be released along with other detained persons.
Omar Abdullah was released after eight months in custody after the J&K government revoked the Public Safety Act (PSA) imposed on him in Febuary. The PSA was slapped on Abdullah after the end of his six-month-long preventive detention.
The former JK chief minister has sought the release of Mehbooba Mufti and other detained persons.
The Government is also in the next phase of the releases likely to revoked the PSA detention of Nayeem Akther, Hilal Akbar Lone and others.
Sources however told The Kashmiriyat that the PSA of the PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti is likely to stay and she will not be released anytime soon.
Various leaders completed six months’ of detention under the Public Safety (PSA) in February this year. The government, then extended their PSA detention by three months which is permissible under law enacted in 1977.
After abrogation of Article 370, the government detained more than 40 political leaders including three former Chief Ministers- Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti- and other prominent political leaders including Sajad Gani Lone and Shah Faesal were detained and later booked under the Public safety Act.
Mehbooba Mufti continues to be in detention under PSA at her Fair view residence in Srinagar, Mobile Internet still remains partially banned in the Kashmir valley and the lock down has entered almost the tenth month.
Sources informed The Kashmiriyat that the Government of India is closely monitoring the situation in Kashmir and the events unfolding in Kashmir will have a major say, whether the Political activities will resume in Jammu Kashmir or not.
“It will majorly depend on the public meetings, the statements of the released politicians, that the Indian Government at the centre will decide the right time to resume political activities in Kashmir.”
Earlier, a Bhartiya Janta Party leader from Jammu had told the press that the internet in Jammu Kashmir will soon be restored, however two days after that the Supreme court of India ordered that the internet ban will continue throughout the state.
More than hundred Kashmiri prisoners, arrested during August 2019 are still lodged in various jails of Uttar pradesh and Haryana, hundreds of miles away from home.
