20-year-old Civilian injured civilian succumbs, Protests erupt in Shopian area

Protests have erupted in Shopian’s Darazpora area after a civilian was shot dead in the south Kashmir district on Sunday noon.

Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that the locals staged protests demanding the dead body of the 20-year-old Shoaib Ahmed Ganie, who was shot dead in the area.

Shoaib as per the Police was killed during crossfire in the Shopian area.

The Jammu Kashmir Police in a tweet said, militats fired upon the joint patrol party of CRPF-182Bn/SOG of Pulwama near the bridge connecting Litter Pulwama with Turkwangam, Shopian. During exchange of fire between militants and the joint team, one civilian namely Shoaib Ah Ganie Son of Ghulam Mohammed Ganie, a resident of Turkwangam, Shopian got injured.

Shoaib, later succumbed to his injuries.

The Kashmiriyat tried to contact Shoaib’s family, however, they were not available for any comments over the death of the 20-year-old.

The spokesperson of the People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration and the senior leader of the Community Party of India (Marxist)  said that people were “dissatisfied” with the Government’s version of the killing.
