People living in dozens of remote areas in the Kashmir valley continued to suffer as they remained cut off from the rest of the valley for the fourth straight day in view of the snowfall in these parts of the Himalayan valley.
Reports available to The Kashmiriyat suggest that various areas in North Kashmir including those close to the Line of Control (LoC) are cut off from the Kashmir valley as the road connectivity to these border areas has been cut off, in fact the snow clearance operation is yet to start.
The traffic service to the border towns of Tanghdar, Keran, and Machil, besides dozens of far-flung areas in north Kashmir, remained suspended for the fourth successive day on Thursday due to slippery road conditions following the accumulation of several feet of snow.
Gurez and its adjoining areas in the Bandipora district also remained cut off from the rest of the valley since November 14. About three to four feet of snow were accumulated here.
“Dozens of areas including Machil, Kernah, Keran and Tanghdar, remained cut off due to slippery road conditions following accumulation of snow,” an official of Police Control Room (PCR), Kupwara said.
He said that about two to three feet of snow have accumulated at Sadhna top, Phirkiyan pass, and Z Gali. “The snow clearance operation is most likely to start from Thursday or Friday provided the weather remains dry.

The clearance will take a couple of days as the snow has frozen due to sub-zero temperature,” he said.
An official from Bandipora said that many areas in the North Kashmir district remained closed for traffic movement since November 14.
