Son Arrested, Mother Suffers Heart Attack in Shopian, Dies- Released Hours Later

The mother of a 28-year-old youth allegedly died of a cardiac arrest hours after her son was detained during a cordon and search operation in the Biminipora area of the Vehil belt in South Kashmir on Thursday evening.

The family members told The Kashmiriyat that a youth identified as Sameer Ahmed Wani son of Habibullah Wani was picked up during a cordon and search operation launched jointly by Government Forces in the Biminpora area of Shopian.

As soon as the news of his arrest reached his home, his mother, Ateeqa Banoo faced a cardiac arrest after which she was shifted to the Shopian district hospital.

“She was not keeping well for a long time and was admitted at the Shopian district hospital, as soon as she heard the news of her son being detained reached the hospital, her face turned pale, she shouted loudly calling her son’s name and soon turned mute,” a family member said.

She breathed her last at the hospital.

Sameer, who is survived by another brother was released hours soon after his mother passed away. “He was released soon after his mother passed away and the news of her death spread around the area,” a family member said.

The Jammu Kashmir police however refuted the claims and said, “Police Shopian refutes the baseless and fake news circulating on social media regarding the death of One lady Ateeqa of Beminapora, It’s clarified that said lady died of COVID infection In DH Shopian.”
