Sopore’s Ispeer colony residents stage protest to press for construction of drainage

Residents of Ispeer colony Chinkipora in Sopore staged a protest to press for construction of drainage in their area.

The protest comes a day after concerned authorities started work for macadamization of Gousiaabad Chinkipora road.

Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the aggrieved residents said that instead macadamization, the construction of drainage system is crucial to save their locality from submerging.

“In the absence of drainage system, we face water logging problems every time it rains. Then we have to walk through dirty water,” said Nazir Ahmed, a local.

Residents said they approached the authorities many a times to no avail.

“We are tired now. We don’t want to stay here anymore. Our property is worth one crore but due to the absence of drainage system, none is ready to buy our house,” said Irtiza, a woman protestor.

They urged the authorities to solve their long pending grievance.

Assitant Executive Engineer (AEE) Roads and Buildings department Sopore said, the road doesn’t fall in their jurisdiction.

“The road pertains to PMGSY and R&B department has nothing to do with it,” he added.

Assistant Executive Engineer, PMGSY Baber Ahmed told KNO that they along with revenue department had already told residents to remove encroachments on the road but they failed to do so.

He said that wherever needed, drainage will be constructed to ease the problems of people and he will visit the site and review the process, accordingly—(KNO)
