In a sign that recent hostilities between India and Pakistan may be cooling, preparations are underway to restart flight operations at Srinagar’s international airport, which has remained shut since May 9.
Although there is no official confirmation yet, insiders within the aviation sector say that the groundwork for reopening is in motion. “We’ve received encouraging signals. If all goes according to plan, flights could be back in the air by Tuesday,” a senior airport official told this publication on condition of anonymity.
The shutdown, triggered by last week’s military escalation, brought civilian air traffic to a grinding halt at several key airports, with Srinagar among the most affected. The Airports Authority of India had issued temporary restrictions under NOTAM protocols, suspending operations for safety reasons.
Now, with a ceasefire reportedly holding, technical teams have begun readying infrastructure for a possible restart. The mood among airline staff and passengers is cautiously optimistic, with many hoping this signals a broader move towards regional stability.
A formal update from the authorities is expected soon.
