Srinagar areas shut down on anniversaries of Mirwaiz, Abdul Gani Lone

Various parts of Srinagar Saturday observed a shutdown to mark the anniversary of the killings of Hurriyat leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone.

Shops, business establishments, around the downtown area and adjoining areas shut to mark the anniversary, Locals told The Kashmiriyat.

Meanwhile, people are visiting the martyrs’ graveyard of Srinagar to offer Fateh Khawani to the slain.

On 21 May 1990, Unknown gunmen shot dead Mirwaiz e Kashmir, Molvi Mohammed Farooq at his residence in Srinagar. The Government forces attacked his funeral. Over 60 were killed and 200 were injured in the firing.

On May 21, 2002, Unknown gunmen shot dead prominent Hurriyat Leader, Abdul Gani Lone when he was paying tributes to Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq.

Meanwhile, Jammu Kashmir National Conference and JKPDP have paid tributes to the slain Hurriyat leaders.
