The 434-Km long Srinagar-Leh highway connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir Valley was closed due to fresh spell of snowfall in Zojila Pass and Sonamarg in this central Kashmir district on Friday.
Reports said that health resort of Sonamarg and adjoining hills received around one inches snow while rains lashed the other areas of the district.
Bringing smiles to the tourists again in Kashmir, world famous tourist spot Sonamarg on Friday received fresh snowfall. Amid heavy rain in plains Upper reaches of Kashmir valley received fresh snowfall which bring chill again in the Valley whereas many tourists were seen moving towards Sonamarg to enjoy snowfall.
However, the Srinagar Leh highway has been closed since yesterday evening due to heavy snow fall in Zojila area. The snow depth is about 6 inch at Minamarg, reports said.
The highway was thrown open last week by Beacon without even informing the local administration following which district administration vowed to launch “criminal proceedings” against the beacon officials.
Meanwhile, the weather department forecast moderate to rather heavy rain, thunder showers at a many places over J&K divisions, “Widespread Rain forecast from today till 21st SaturdayMorning in Jammu and Kashmir.
