Scores of Residents of the Tengpora area in Batamloo of Srinagar staged a protest demonstration on Saturday against Power Development Department (PDD) against a “unilateral hike in electricity tariff.”

Holding electricity bills in their hands, the locals took to the roads and staged protests in their locality and chanted slogans against the PDD.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat they alleged that the Department has failed to provide electricity even as per the schedule. “In times of coronavirus when most people are finding it hard to make ends meet, the PDD has unilaterally increased power tariff to add to the sufferings of people,” they said

“How can we pay such inflated electricity bills?” the locals asked.

“The department has miserably failed to provide uninterrupted supply to Tengpora Batamloo area,” they told The Kashmiriyat.

“How can PDD increase tariff without consulting consumers? First, they should provide electricity as per the schedule and then ask for extra fees,” they added.
