The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi late on Tuesday night witnessed stone pelting and clashes when right wing groups threw stones at a group of students watching the BBC documentary on Narendra Modi.
Students from JNU told The Kashmiriyat that earlier the university officials shut the electricity in the campus to bar the students from watching the documentary.
“When we finally decided to watch the film on our laptops, some goons sloganeering goons pelted stones at us, injuring some students,” the student said.
They said that the right wing persons involved in the attack have been identified and a complaint has been raised to the University administration.
‘The Modi Question’, a BBC documentary with duration of nearly one hour focuses on the secret investigation conducted by the United Kingdom over the death of three of its citizens during the Gujrat massacre of 2002.
The three were on a visit to Gujarat in the year 2002 in the aftermath of Godhra train blasts which killed dozens of Hindus.
Stark observations have been made by the investigation team, that include PM Modi’s ‘direct’ involvement in the Gujarat massacre.
The documentary quotes witnesses who on-camera accept that the then Chief Minister of the state met the police officials a day ahead of their massacre and ordered them not to provide free hand to violent right wing mobs for 72 hours.
The documentary also sheds light on the independent tribunal led by former judicial officers and the suspicious murder of Hiren Pandya, the former Home Minister of Gujarat in India.
He was allegedly murdered in 2003 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, when he was sitting in his car (the place of his murder is contentious), after a morning walk in the Law Garden area in Ahmedabad.
The documentary also quotes eyewitnesses over the murder of Ehsan Jafri, who as per eyewitnesses was killed by right wing forces, moments after he dialled Narendra Modi who refused to offer any kind of help. “In fact, PM Modi abused him,” the eyewitness told BBC.
The documentary which has created a controversy in India also raises questions on how Muslims have been treated during the BJP rule since 2014.
Bhartiya Janta Party Government has banned the documentary in India and asked social media to delete any tweets regarding the movie, which has evoked sharp criticism.
The Committe to Protect Journalists has reacted sharply to the move of banning the film.
