Sudan Floods: Dozens Dead and Thousands Homeless

Floodwater in Sudan has reached an unprecedented level, killing dozens and destroying life. According to the interior ministry, more than 80 people have been killed due to the torrential rains and floods. More than 200,000 people have been affected and 30,400 homes damaged across 15 states of Sudan.

The capital Khartoum, Blue Nile, and White Nile states are among the hardest hit, while some damage has also been reported in Gezira, Gadarif, West Kordifan and South Darfur.

According to the UN office for coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan, more than 1600 water sources have been contaminated and many schools have been damaged as well.

The condition is feared to worsen as weather forecasts predict more rainfall in the coming month, in Sudan. Floods are common in Sudan, more so because of the non functional sewer system and poor infrastructure.
