Supreme Court to Hear Petition Challenging 35 A from Tomorrow

The Supreme Court from Tuesday will hear petitions challenging the validity of Article 35A – which gives the state government of Jammu & Kashmir the power to define “permanent citizens” and provide special rights to them.

.The apex court will hear the petitions from February 26-28. The petitioners have challenged the constitutional validity of Article 35-A saying that it was introduced in the Constitution by way of President Order.

Ahead of the hearing, the political parties, figures in J&K have put the pressure on the Centre, sending a stern message to the Modi government not to scrap the law.

The likes of PDP chief and former CM Mehbooba Mufti, Congress and Peoples Conference (PC) chairman Sajjad Gani Lone have spoken in favor of 35A, and said that it cannot be, under any circumstances, scrapped.
