Three Sports Academies to be Opened in Jammu Kashmir

Three sports academies will open in Jammu Kashmir to enhance sports talent. It will also include non-official members to make the functioning of the Sports Council more transparent.

This decision was taken by Lt. Governor GC Murmu in the 133rd and 57th General Assembly meeting of the permanent limited of the Sports Council. He issued the necessary guidelines and ordered the adoption of new rules for the selection process in the subordinate jobs of the council.

In a meeting held at Raj Bhavan, Farooq Khan, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor, mentioned the work done to encourage sports activities among the youth in the state.

Describing the sports infrastructure available in Jammu and Kashmir as one of the best sports infrastructure in the country, the Lt. Governor said that we have to adopt policy reforms for its maintenance and further improvement.

He said that the achievements and successes earned by the local youth in the field of sports should be publicized.

This will also attract youth sports. Referring to the establishment of three sports academies in the state, he said that all the necessary proposals for this should be submitted soon.

Murmu suggested publishing a coffee tablebook on sports activities over the course of a year.

He also said that there is more scope for sports activities related to water sports and mountaineering in Jammu Kashmir than other parts of the country.

To promote water and adventure sports in the state, emphasis was laid on preparing a comprehensive plan and incorporating the corporate sector in it.

Farooq informed that apart from Nehru Park and Dalgate Srinagar, infrastructural facilities are being mobilized to promote water sports at Ranjit Sagar Lake Basohli Kathua.
