Three years after abrogation, Jammu residents feel ‘deceived’

The residents of Jammu city have expressed great dissatisfaction over the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35 A stating that all the promises made by the Bhartiya Janta Party turned out to be false.

On August 05, 2019, several mainstream channels in India showed visuals from Jammu that the Jammu residents were celebrating the BJP Government’s unilateral decision of the Abrogation of Article 370. However, several Jammu residents claimed that the celebrations were made by BJP workers and their sister organizations only.

Expressing anguish over the decision to abrogate Artice 370, a local Sikh said that the promises the Bhartiya Janta Party had made during the revocation of the Special status of Jammu Kashmir have all turned out to be a hoax.

“I want to say that the way they decided to Abrogate 370 and 35 A in one night but the local people of Jammu did not get it that what they were promised. They (BJP) said that they want to make Jammu Kashmir, a part of India,” he said.
‘Wasn’t JK a part of India before?” he asked.

I want to say that from 5 Aug 2019 to 5 Aug 2020, the Commerce and Economic chambers report suggested that there was a loss of 4000 crores in Jammu Kashmir, this is not a small thing. one Million Job Losses were also reported during the period, he said.

“Don’t we have the right to speak?” he asked.

Three years after abrogation, JKSSB posts were withdrawn, daily wagers are on the streets, BSF CISF, and covid warriors are on the streets. This is the giving of the abrogation of the Articles 370 and 35 A,” he said.

Remembering the overnight and spontaneous lockdown imposed on the abrogation of Article 370, he said, hundreds of Jammu residents, especially vendors were begging for food and things. Did the Government even consider those who are dependent on daily wages, he asked.

Another local from Jammu said that the situation in Jammu was going from bad to worse. “A lot of promises were made at that time, including massive projects would come to Jammu, No projects came, but people lost their jobs and unemployment is rising fast,” he said.

“One should go and ask those people who were dancing on the streets after August 05, 2019, about the gains Jammu has made post abrogation after BJPs decision.”

Another citizen of Jammu said that the decision was made to carter a large vote bank. “In today’s Jammu, the number of unemployed is mounting. The tax on everything has multiplied manifolds. It seems they are collecting Jizya tax. It never happened before in Jammu and Kashmir.”
