‘Told to limit number of devotees in Muharram processions’, say Shia leaders after meeting with LG

Shia leaders have expressed great dissatisfaction after their meeting LG Manoj Sinha on Monday over the annual Muharram processions.

Speaking to the press at Srinagar’s Press Colony, Syed Muzaffar said that the Manoj Sinha Led administration wanted them to limit the number of mourners attending the 8th Muharram gathering to 100. “This is not a wedding invitation where we can limit the number of people. Devotees will come out in large numbers, and nobody can stop them,” he said.

He expressed great dissatisfaction with the fact that the LG-led admin wanted Shia leaders to limit down the number of mourners and said nothing fruitful came out of the meeting.

Earlier, Moulana Imran Raza Ansari walked out from a high-level meeting called by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir at the secretariat.

In his statement, he said that he was shouted upon by a bureaucrat at the meeting after which LG too shut him down. He said that he had expressed deep disappointment over the administration’s neglect of the spiritual and cultural sensitivities of Muslims in Kashmir.
