Turkey and Russian Officials Move an Inch Closer to Ceasefire Agreement

Turkey and Russia in their latest meeting in Ankara have decided on the agreement of ceasefire and political processes in Libya, according to the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusolgu in a broadcast interview.

Both sides held this week a new round of talks on developments in Syria and Libya, which was expected to end on Wednesday.

The Government of National Accord (GNA) last month declared a ceasefire in Libya and called for  upliftment of blockades on oil facilities.

Aguila Saleh, the leader of a rival parliament to the east, also called for a halt to hostilities. But Haftar, who is also backed by Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, dismissed the move.

Ankara and Moscow are the main power brokers in Libya’s war, backing opposing sides. Russia supports the eastern-based forces of Khalifa Haftar, while Turkey backs Libya’s international GNA.
