Two Indian Army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were injured on Sunday in an encounter with militants in the hilly Kishtwar district of Jammu.
This marks the second such encounter in Jammu Kashmir in a single day.
The encounter began on Sunday morning in the Keshwan forests of Kishtwar as joint search teams of the Army and police intercepted a group of militants, officials said.
The ongoing operation in the forest areas of Kuntwara and Keshwan has been active since Thursday evening, following the killing of two village defense guards (VDGs) earlier this week.
The militants, believed to be responsible for the VDG killings, are suspected of being cornered by security forces in the forest.
In a post on X, District Police Kishtwar stated: “Encounter begins at Keshwan Kishtwar between militants and security forces. 3/4 militants believed to be trapped. This is the same group that killed the two innocent villagers.”
Earlier in the day, a separate encounter erupted in the Ishber-Nishat forest area on the outskirts of Srinagar, where security forces engaged with another group of militants.
