
Two “gangsters” from Punjab – Jaipal Bhullar and Jaspreet Jassi – were killed in an encounter with the STF of Kolkata Police at New Town on Wednesday, official sources said.
A policeman was also injured in the shootout at the posh Shapoorji Housing Complex at New Town, the expanding township in the eastern part of this metropolis. Bhullar said to be a son of a former cop of Punjab, said to be carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh for his information after he allegedly killed some policemen in that state.
The encounter happened at Shapoorji residential area when the STF of Kolkata Police went to raid the place where the two were believed to be hiding.
The policemen went in search of them when they opened fire from the fifth floor of the flat.
A search was also being conducted to find out if any other associates were hiding in this residence.
The investigation was on to ascertain from when the gangsters were hiding in the city.
STF officer Kartik Mohan Ghosh was also injured. He was taken to hospital.
Police said Jaspreet Jassi, a Punjab gangster, and his associate Jaipal Bhullar were hiding in that residence. (UNI)
