Under Detention Since July Last Year, Hurriyat Stalwart, Mohammed Ashraf Sehrai Passes Away at Jammu Hospital

The incarcerated chairman of Hurriyat Fraction, Mohammed Ashraf Sehrai who was under detention under the Public safety act is in critical condition at GMC Jammu, a family member confirmed to The Kashmiriyat.

Sehrai was facing detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA) has been hospitalized. He had been unwell for a long time, his family member told The Kashmiriyat. An official however said that he was shifted to the GMC in Jammu after his health started deteriorating at Kot Bhalwal jail on Tuesday.

He said police have informed the family in the evening hours that Sehrai’s health has deteriorated in Jail and was accordingly admitted at GMC in Jammu.

Pertinently, in July 2020 separatist leader Ashraf Sehrai was arrested from his residence in Srinagar by the Jammu Kashmir (J&K) Police and was lodged at Udhampur Jail.

Ashraf Sehrai was elected as the chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, one of his Son Junaid Sehrai joined the Militant outfit, Hizb ul Mujahideen and was killed in 2020 May during an encounter in Srinagar.
