‘unfortunate that media speaking on my house’s eviction and not Shopian’s Custodial killing’, says Mehbooba Mufti

Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday criticized the media and said that it was surprising to her that an eviction notice served to her is bigger news than a young man being killed in the custody.

Speaking to the media in Bijbehara, the resting place of Mufti Mohammed Sayed, the former Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti said, “It is not surprising that people are no being allowed to travel, neither is it surprising that I have been served a notice to evict the Gupkar residence, what is surprising is the fact that nobody in the media talks about 19-year-old Imran of Shopian being killed in an encounter while he was in the custody of Police.”

“The prime debate should be about How a young man who was not a convict, but an accused died in Police custody,” she said.

The PDP president said that the Jammu Kashmir admin is not concerned about security or anything else. “They do not spare the lives of young people, What big deal is leaving a house,” she asked.

She said that it was unfortunate that people are wasting their time on me being notified to leave the Gupkar residence and nobody is talking about critical issues of such custodial killings.

Pertinently Imran Bashir who was arrested by Jammu Kashmir Police in connection with the killing of two non-locals in Shopian was killed by “another militant” after security forces established contact with them, Police had said.

“Using dubious nomenclature- hybrid militant & chance encounters to justify civilian killings has become the norm in Kashmir. Imran Ganai arrested by the police & then killed in their custody allegedly by another militant defies logic & deserves a thorough investigation,” Mehbooba Mufti had tweeted demanding a probe into the incident.
