An unknown organization is reportedly active exacting money from drivers in the name of ‘Save the Girl Children’ slogan. The said organization is using the name of Traffic Police Department.
A couple of days back a lone protester at Srinagar’s Press Enclave staged a protest stating that an unknown organization whose credentials seems dubious is collecting money from drivers.
He said some persons stop vehicles, paste a sticker displaying the slogan ‘Save the Girl Children, Obey Traffic Rules’ in the name of Traffic Police and demand Rs 200 from each driver. Such incidents according to the protesting youth are common in Southern and Northern districts.
A driver who was given the receipt after paying Rs 200 said that those who stopped his vehicle were unknown to them. The receipt mentions the name of “Traffic Road Safety Alert Team-Affiliation of Luminescent Reflector Campaign-High and Lower Bimp” and it is without any address.
SSP Traffic Srinagar City Javaid Koul said that no such practice is prevalent in Srinagar and he doesn’t know anything about it.
ADGP Traffic T.Namgiyal told news agency Kashmir News Trust that Traffic Department has nothing to do with this NGO or whatever it is. “We haven’t allowed anyone to use the name of our department. It is police case and complainants should approach police,” he said. (KNT)
