The Uttar Pradesh Police have booked at least a hundred people in the Pilibhit town after they staged a protest over ”insulting” remarks made by Hindu priest Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati against Prophet Muhammad, a renowned Urdu newspaper, Inquilab reported.
According to the report, the protestors have been accused of violating social distancing norms and section 144 imposed in the area on account of Panchayat elections in Pilibhit.
Hafiz Noor Azhari of the Sunni Ulema council condemning the development said that nowadays large gatherings are being witnessed outside the local Block Development Office due to elections but the police fail to take notice of that. “However, they could see the gathering of Muslims who had come out of their houses to peacefully demand action against a terrorist [Saraswati],” he added.
He added that they will respond to the police action in a legal and democratic way.
Saraswati, who heads Dasna Devi temple in Ghaziabad, used abusive language against Prophet Muhammad at a press conference held at the Press Club of India.
He has reiterated the same and endorsed violence against Muslims on several occasions as well.
Amid growing outrage over his remarks, the Delhi Police on Saturday lodged an FIR under sections 153-A & 295-A of IPC against him. More FIRs have been lodged at several police stations in others states too. With Inputs from Muslim Mirror
