Update- Heated Exchange of Gunfire Continues, Two Force Personnel Injured

Two Government Force personnel have been injured in the encounter that raged in the Malpora area of Mir Bazar on the National Highway in the South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday evening.

As per the Jammu Kashmir Police, the encounter raged when Government Forces followed the trail of the Militants who earlier attacked their convoy near the Mir Bazar on the highway that connects Jammu with Srinagar.

“The militants attacked the convoy, which was retaliated by the Forces and when the Militants were followed, they got trapped in a four-storey-building in the Mir Bazar area, after which an encounter started. The operation is being jointly conducted by  1 RR, CRPF and police,” an official said.

During the exchange of gunfire, A  CRPF trooper identified as Umesh Singh  from Jharkhand was injured who was shifted to emergency hospital Qazigund for treatment. “Two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants are believed to be trapped inside a building,” he said.

The Inspector General of Jammu Kashmir Police Vijay Kumar and General Officer Commanding of Victor Force, Major General Rashim Bali have also reached the spot of the encounter and were supervising the operation.

Two Militants trapped Militants are believed to be from the Militant outfit The Resistance Front (TRF)- Lashkar e Taiba.

Clashes erupted at the site of the gunfight between youth and the Government forces in which two youth sustained bullet injuries, as per Local news agency Kashmir News Observer.

The Injured youth were shifted to GMC Anantnag for treatment. They have been identified as Sahil Yaqoob Bhat (25) of Mir Dantar Anantnag and Shahid Farooq Sheikh of Kulgam.

As per hospital Sources, Sahil has received a bullet injury in lower abdomen and is being operated on at the GMC Anantnag while as Shahid has sustained bullet injury in his thigh. His condition is stated to be stable.

As per Locals from Mir Bazar reinforcements have been called to the site amid a heated exchange of gunfire.

“Search Lights have been installed around the site to not allow Militants any chance to use the darkness to escape from the site of the encounter,” the official said.
