Video: Internet abuzz as sufi sensation Abdul Rashid Hafiz unveils new song

Kashmir’s Sufi sensation, Abdul Rashid Hafiz, along with Bollywood’s renowned music directors Salim-Sulaiman and Mithoon, is causing a sensation on the internet with their latest song, “Meri Jaan,” performed in both Hindi and Kashmiri.

 

This musical collaboration features Abdul Rashid Hafiz and Asees Kaur, a Bollywood playback singer, who lends her voice to the Hindi portion of the song. The track begins with verses by poet Abdul Ahad Nizam, followed by Asees Kaur’s rendition.

The highlight of the song is when Hafiz performs his popular “Ya tuli khanjar to maarey, nat’e saan’i shaba roozay,” adding a unique charm to the composition.

Salim-Sulaiman, known for bridging folk and modern music through their musical journey “Bhoomi,” have chosen to compose this renowned Sufi song for the season. They introduced the song through a trailer on social media and YouTube, describing it as one of their enchanting melodies.

Abdul Rashid Hafiz, when contacted, mentioned that it’s too early to discuss the song’s details.

The collaboration between Hafiz and Mithoon has garnered a lot of attention on social media and other platforms, with the song receiving thousands of views and numerous comments shortly after its release.

Singer Asees Kaur expressed her gratitude for being part of “Bhoomi” and praised the opportunity provided to Kashmiri artists by Salim Sulaiman.

Listeners have praised the fusion of tradition and modernity in the song, describing it as a masterpiece that reflects the rich cultural tapestry of the region.
