Locals speaking to the media said that the duo was shot dead by the Army. “We found bullets outside the gate of the Indian Army. The duo worked as porters with the Indian Army. They shot them dead. On one side of the road is an Army camp and on the other, there is a CRPF camp. The Indian army personnel responsible for the death should be held accountable,” a protesting local said.

The deceased were identified the slain as Kamal Kumar and Surinder Kumar, both natives of the Rajouri district.

Another local said, “As we were going for Fajr (dawn prayers), we heard loud gunshots. As we rushed out of the mosque, people were running in chaos. When we followed the trail of the gunshots, we saw the bodies of Kamal and Surinder lying down on the road in a pool of blood.”

Two Locals said that they have recovered more than twenty bullets near the Army camp.

Meanwhile, the protesters have blocked the Highway from Jammu-Poonch demanding a probe into the incident.

Army in a Tweet, however, denounced the local narrative and said the duo was killed by unidentified militants near the military hospital.

“In an early morning firing incident by unidentified terrorists at Rajauri near Military Hospital, there has been a fatal casualty of two individuals. The Police, security forces, and civil administration officials are on the site,” the army in a Tweet said.
