In a bizarre incident at the South Kashmir’s premier maternity and Childcare hospital in Anantnag, rats on Wednesday nibbled the finger of a newborn baby.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, a woman alleged that the little finger of a newborn baby was injured after being gnawed by rats at the Government hospital in Anantnag.

She was asked to take her baby to GMC Anantnag so as to give him anti-rabies to avoid the possibility of any infection.

Many other attendants present at MCCH also alleged that rats bigger than newborn babies are present at the hospital due to which patients, as well as attendants, are suffering.

Officials posted at the hospital upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat said that the rodents scurry about the hospital, however, he said that he has no information about today’s incident.

He said that the building is very old and there is a space crunch and it is very difficult to manage things in a cramped space, adding that a private company has been hired by the authorities to make the hospital free from rodents within a period of three months for which they will get Rs1.5 lakh for the job.
