Viral videos spark outrage as PDP demands enquiry for Poonch custodial assault

In the wake of the Poonch custodial killings, several videos have appeared on social media in which some government force personnel can be seen assaulting some men.

Condemning the action of forces, People’s Democratic Party on Saturday demanded an action against the accused.

“Saw a distressing video allegedly of army jawans gleefully stripping civilians in Poonch & pouring heaps of chilli powder over their whipped bottoms. GOI must clarify. If this is true it will only serve to terrorise people & further the sense of growing alienation,” Iltija Mufti, People’s Democratic Party’s Media spokesperson wrote to her twitter handle.

Pertinently, the viral video showed abusing men wearing army fatigues beating some men lying down on the ground. While the men are seen crying for mercy, those in army fatigues can be seen pouring chilly powder on their private parts.

The incident comes in the backdrop of the Poonch attacks where the vehicles of the Indian army were ambushed by militants near the Dera Ki Gali in Surankote between the twin districts Poonch and Rajouri of the Pir Panjal range. Five army personnel were killed and two other critically wounded.

Following this, reports added, that at least ten locals were arrested for questioning, which included three individuals identified as Safeer Hussain son of Wazir Hussain aged 37 and Mohammed Showkat son of Nazir Hussain aged 26 and Shabir Ahmed aged 32, residents of Topi Pir area in Bufliaz area of Poonch.

While the three of those detained were brought dead to the hospital, many others are said to be injured.

Qamar Choudhary, former MLA of Rajouri claimed that people were not being allowed to visit the village.
