‘We Carry Pregnant Women on Our Shoulders’- Sorry Condition of Roads in Sopore Area

The dilapidated roads from Haritar to Ambarpura in Sopore District of Baramulla is giving nightmarges to thousands of residents living in the area.

Aghast Locals speaking to The Kashmiriyat at Haritar area in Sopore said that since decades the roads of the area have been pathetic and unadressed. “Though we have approached the officials several times, but nobody has responded to our frequent pleas,” a local told The Kashmiriyat.

He said that a bridge was constructed years ago, that too, though cannot be used, because it was left incomplete by the Jammu And Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation Limited (JKPCC). “We are facing an extreme situation here and we have to wake patient and pregnant ladies, sometimes carry them on our shoulders, due to the non-availability of roads in the area.

“they are looting the public funds, not making proper use of it, we ask the higher ups to kindly intervene into the matter and avail us roads, so that we too can live normally,” a resident said.

The authorities have been delaying the work and telling the locals, that the work would be done soon.

“Some of the contractors are looting the JKPCC in coordination with their officers, we appeal the Lieutenant Governor to intervene into this matter.”

The Kashmiriyat tried to contact DGM of JKPCC, Imtiyaz Ahmed after several attempts finally took a call and said, “I will call you back,”, but after that he did not take any calls.
