Kashmir’s Largest Circulated English Newspaper on Monday said that its Jammu bureau received several calls from an unidentified caller who threatened to shoot down the entire staff of the publication.
They claimed that the caller said he would barge into the office of the publication both in Jammu as well as in Srinagar, and shoot down the entire staff, responding to which the publication has lodged a written complaint at Ghandi Nagar police station.
Pertinently the Government of Jammu Kashmir cut down advertisements to several Kashmir newspapers including Greater Kashmir, pertinently for exercising its freedom to act as a watchdog over the Government, at a time, when embedded journalism has gained prominence in India.
There have been several attacks on Freedom of press in Kashmir, a Journalist Asif Sultan was arrested for allegedly sheltering militants who killed a constable in a shootout in August 2018 at Batamaloo in Srinagar.
Aasif Sultan, a journalist, working as an editor for the Magazine, Kashmir Narrator was picked up during a nocturnal raid on August 31 by Jammu Kashmir Police who claimed that they found some incriminating material on his laptop.
Last year, National Investigating Agency arrested a freelance photographer, Kamran Yusuf from Kashmir’s Pulwama District and was kept under detention for at least six months. The Government Agencies have often been blamed of wanting to have a say in what news should be published and what not.

The Kashmiriyat also received threat calls for highlighting the attacks on Kashmiri students in various states of India.
