Wet weather hits air transport in Kashmir; 14 flights cancelled so far

Several parts of the Kashmir valley received fresh snowfall on Tuesday (January 04) which hit the flight operations in the region. As the snowfall continued, several flights were cancelled due to poor visibility.

According to reports received by The Kashmiriyat, so far 14 flights have been cancelled due to wet weather conditions which are expected to intensify as the day progresses.

The weatherman has issued an orange warning for the Jammu Kashmir region and asked people to take all necessary precautions.

“ There are chances of snow avalanches and landslides in vulnerable areas besides disruption of power supply in hilly areas. There may be water logging in low-lying areas besides a further dip in day temperatures,” the warning said.

“People in snow-bound areas are to avoid venturing into sloppy areas during heavy snow,” the advisory reads, adding, “People are also advised to maintain proper ventilation.”

An official posted at the Srinagar told The Kashmiriyat that 6E 2015 flying to Delhi at 9:15 AM, G8 358 flying to (DEL) Delhi at 9:30 AM, SG flying to Delhi at 9:45 AM, I5 710 flying to Delhi at 9:50 AM, I5 7002 flying to (DEL) Delhi at 10:30 AM, 6E 2364 flying to Delhi at 10:40 AM, G8 193 flying to Delhi 11:15 AM have been cancelled.

“Six flights arriving in Srinagar airport have also been cancelled due to poor visibility,” he said.
