‘Widespread fear in Kashmir, no law being followed during eviction drives’, Omar Abdullah lashes out at admin

Lashing down at the administration over the demolition drive, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said claimed that there was widespread fear in Jammu Kashmir due to the “lawless” eviction drives across Jammu Kashmir.

Speaking at a press conference in Srinagar, the Kashmiri leader said that the eviction drives launched in the nook and corner of Kashmir have created panic among the people. “Scaring people will not yield any results, stop sending the bulldozers out. That is our first demand,” he said.

Hinting that dissent was being criminalized, Omar Abdullah said, “Now that I am speaking here openly against the demolition drive, the admin will demolish more properties belonging to JKNC leaders.” Omar Abdullah said that he was not defending those who have grabbed land illegally, but a transparent procedure should be followed not lawlessness.

Responding to a question he said, “Government has divided people on the basis of religion, caste, color, creed, community and now it wants to divide them on economic basis and this is one more step towards polarizing the residents of Kashmir.”

“I know the law, you have to serve notice that too in black and white. Show me the notice if you have served Sagar Sahab. This bulldozer has become a source of corruption now,” he said.
