“Will Kill Those Who vote,”- Hizb Posters Surface in Shopian, Pulwama

Four days ahead of last phase of Lok Sabha polls in Shopian and Pulwama district , Hizbul Mujahideen posters have appeared in several villages threatening to ‘kill those who cast vote’.

On Thursday people in several villages woke up to find posters pasted on walls and electric polls threatening of dire consequences for participating in polling on May 6. “We have information that Army might force you to cast votes.

But every one should understand that they need to make a choice. Those who cast vote on the polling day in Shopian will be killed,” the poster reads.

A Police official upon being contacted said that they have also received reports of such posters having surfaced in many villages of the twin districts.

“We are checking the authenticity of these posters,” the official said.

The unverified poster claiming to be from Hizbul Mujahideen group has also asked parents for not sending their wards to Army Goodwill School. Reports of such posters were received from Pulwama as well.

“You cannot say, in these type of cases, they are genuine or not. Will look into the matter,” the sources said without disclosing the name of places were the posters were found. The militant group has also threatened to kill those who work with Army or Police as informers.

“Our commander Riyaz Naikoo has told you time and again to desist from Indian parties but some people don’t listen.  The time is over now, we will act against them and put their videos in public,” the  poster reads.

The militancy hotbed Shopian and Pulwama will go to polls on May 6. Election Commission for the first time has divided the polls for Anantnag parliamentary constituency in three phases.

Anantnag and Kulgam district have voted and the twin districts of Pulwama and Shopian will be going to polls in the last phase. ECI said that the decision to divide the polls for one seat was taken after taking into consideration the security situation.
