Criticizing the recent order of the JK admin to evict “encroachers” from the state land, a District Development Council member from south Kashmir said that he is ready to take the first bullet, but will not let the admin remove any properties from my DDC constituency.
“How is it humane to order the snatching away of the land of the poor people who are using the state land to take care of their families or have built their houses over small patches of land,” Riyaz Ahmed Bhat, DDC member from Devsar (B) in Kulgam district said.
He asked why were the people of Jammu Kashmir allowed to build houses on the land initially. “Initially, the people of Jammu Kashmir were asked to register lands under the Roshni act for a huge sum of money and now they are being informed that the order has been declared null and void,” he said.
Claiming that thousands of Kashmiris would be impacted if the order is implemented, he said, “it is time for people of Jammu Kashmir must unite against the authoritarian order.”
The Jammu Kashmir administration recently called for the removal of “encroachers” from the state land by January 31.
