Woman Withdraws Complaint Against Muslim Brothers Under ‘Love Jihad’ Law, Says She Was Pressured By Hindu Organizations

It has emerged from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, that a Sikh woman (24) has retracted her allegations against two Muslim brothers who had been booked under the anti-conversion law based on her complaint.

The woman had earlier alleged that she was forced by a man from her neighborhood to marry him and revert towards his religion, although she retracted the claims on Tuesday.

According to a report in the Indian Express, while recording her statement before a magistrate, the woman denied all of the allegations.

She also claimed that she had filed the complaint after coming under pressure from some Hindu organisations.

The two muslim men were booked for rape and fraud. They were charged under the state’s anti-conversion law on the basis of the complaint by her.

The woman had accused one of the men in her neighbourhood and said that he had prepared fake documents to present her as a Muslim woman eligible for Nikah. The woman said that the man she married was in jail at present, while the brother had escaped.

“In her statement before the magistrate, the woman denied all charges levelled against the two brothers. She even denied having married [one of] the accused, and claimed she got the FIR lodged following pressure by some Hindu organisations,” the Station House Officer (SHO) of the police station said. He also added that she did not name any outfit.

The SHO also told that the woman had also denied in her complaint that the accused either took money from her or assaulted her. The police is planning to move court in order to request the release of the accused from jail.

The police has said that the woman visited on Sunday and made allegations against a man, in which she claimed that the man had sexually assaulted her on the pretext of marriage. She also added that the man did not return her the Rs 5 Lakh that he owed her.

She further had claimed that she had married the accused in May and that her father and the accused, both ran grocery shops.

She claimed that this month, she found out that her ‘husband’ got married to another Muslim woman. And when she objected to the marriage, the man and the elder brother allegedly threatened her and beat her.

She filed a complaint, after which the man was arrested and produced before a local court, after which he was sent to judicial custody.

The ASP has to say that the woman had also submitted some documents, including a nikahnama along with her complaint.

“We will verify the nikahnama submitted by the woman along with the complaint letter. Action will be taken based on the inquiry into those documents,” the ASP said.
