Millions of Iranians have hit the streets and mosques for the safety of their president Ebrahim Raisi whose helicopter wreckage was found on Monday morning by rescuers.
Rescue teams have found the wreckage of the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi and his companions, which crashed in the northwest of the country, Iranian Press reported.
Pir-Hossein Koulivand, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), announced the discovery in televised remarks early Monday morning. He reported no signs of survivors from the incident, which occurred on Sunday.
Official confirmation regarding the conclusion of the search and rescue operation is still pending.
The helicopter, carrying President Raeisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and others, encountered difficulties and was forced to make a “hard landing.”
The crash took place in the Dizmar forest, located between the cities of Varzaqan and Jolfa in East Azerbaijan province.
President Raeisi and his delegation were returning from a ceremony to inaugurate a dam on the Aras River with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
