‘Zero Shots on Sunday’- Vaccination Stops Again as Kashmir Runs out of Stocks

The administration in Jammu Kashmir has yet again stopped Covid vaccination in various districts of Kashmir Valley. On Sunday nobody in the ten districts of the Kashmir valley was vaccinated.

As per Official records, On May 15, vaccination was carried out only in three districts including Baramulla, Ganderbal, and Shopian. The Kashmir valley has a total of ten districts.

In Baramulla, 30 people were vaccinated, while as in Ganderbal 263 jabs were given, 211 in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Senior Journalists from the Kashmir valley expressed anguish over the delay in getting vaccination stocks to the valley.

Mufti Islah took to Twitter and wrote, “Vaccine is key in fighting Covid but unfortunately not a single jab received in Kashmir today. The shortage of vaccines is a concern. 28 lakh of 1.3 crore souls have been inoculated- mostly single shots – so far.

As per the data available to The Kashmiriyat, 13,35,394 people have been vaccinated in the Kashmir valley so far. the Highest number of people have been vaccinated in the Baramulla district with 2,41,880 persons being vaccinated so far.

The highest percentage has of vaccination has been achieved in Ganderbal as 96.25 percent persons above 45 age group have been vaccinated. In Anantnag a total of 165318 persons have been provided the dosage so far. in Kulgam 96357 have been vaccinated, in Shopian 76587.

An official speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that they have run out of stock and have not received the fresh supplies of vaccines as of yet. “We are expecting the supplies soon.”

Srinagar which has seen a massive spike amid the resurge in covid cases got no jabs on Saturday.

Official estimates say nearly 28 lakh vaccine doses have been administered in Jammu Kashmir, which includes health care workers, Government Forces. but vaccination for the age group from 18-45 is not been a hit yet.

Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant Governor of Jammu Kashmir has set a 10-day deadline for achieving the target of 100 percent first-dose vaccination for the above-45 age group.

Jammu Kashmir on Saturday reported 3,677 COVID-19 cases and 63 deaths, taking the tally of infections past 2.40 lakh, while the death count rose to 3,090.
