Barring Srinagar’s Jamia Masjid, massive congregations held in Kashmir on Eid ul Fitr

Eid-ul-Fitr was joyously observed across Kashmir with great fervor on Wednesday, as throngs of devotees assembled for prayers.

Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid was shut by the authorities disallowing eid congregation prayers in the mosque.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the head cleric was placed under house arrest and the mosque locked down on the ocassion of Eid ul Fitr, Anjuman Auqad committee said.

In Srinagar, massive congregations were held at Dargah Hazratbal, Khanqah e Moula along with other Khanqahs.

In south Kashmir, the largest congregation was held at Eidgah Janglat Mandi where prayers were allowed by authorities post several years.

Large number of devotees attended eid prayers as the streets wore a festive look with devotees marching the lanes and streets of the town reciting Takbeer and Durood.

Moulana Rameez Qadri addressing the huge crowds here called for a collective fight against the rising crimes and drug menace in Kashmir.

“What is left to see in Kashmir. A son kills a mother and father kills his own daughter. We are witnessing crimes never heard of in the valley. It is time to educate the masses and the movement has to begin from the pulpit of the mosque,” he said.

Huge rush of devotees was also seen at Jamiat Ahli Hadees Eidgah in Ashajipora, Eidgah Harnag, Eidgah Dooru, Eidgah Aishmuqam, Khiram Khanqah, Bijbehara along with other places.

In Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama, local authorities and administrators had made thorough preparations to facilitate the Eid prayers while also prioritizing the comfort and safety of attendees.

The revered Khanqah of Sheikh ul Alam in Budgam was adorned with worshippers clad in traditional garments, gathering from dawn, united in prayer and seeking blessings.

Kashmiri Muslims offered Eid prayers peacefully while in Sopore a massive congregation offered prayers at Eid gah of the north Kashmir town.
