The Anti Militancy Operation launched by Government forces on April 1, this year against local militants doubled, the recruitment, as per a report released by Jammu Kashmir Police.
The report reads that, especially after the April 1 operations that left 13 local Militants dead in the operations, the pace of locals joining Militancy has drastically gone up.
According to the figures collated by Jammu Kashmir Police from, from the South Kashmir comprising four districts, 69 local youths joined militancy since January this year.
The report added that 35 out of these 69 joined immediately after the multiple operations were conducted on April 1 in a major offensive against militancy in south Kashmir.
“In first 90 days of this year, over 30 locals joined the militant ranks but in just 45 days, since April 1, the figure doubled to 69,” says the report.
Among this year’s recruits is an NDA qualifier, a mathematics post graduate, an M.Phil Scholar, a professor.
The DGP had earlier said that 150 local youth are active in the Kashmir valley while 100 are foreigners.
This number of 250 Militants being active in the Kashmir valley comes even after more than 200 Militants have been killed during Anti Militancy operations, the last year.
