178 fresh covid-19 infections, one new black fungus case reported in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir reported 178 fresh covid-19 cases while there was no death due to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Monday. 70 of the fresh cases were reported from Jammu division and 108 from Kashmir, taking the overall tally to 341802. There was no death reported due to the virus during the last 24 hours, they said. So far 4530 persons—2199 in Jammu and 2331 in Kashmir—have died due to the virus, they said. In Karnataka, Dalit family heckled, abused and then assaulted by Right wing groups

Members of a right-wing Hindu group allegedly barged into the house of a Dalit family, hurled abuses at them and assaulted them alleging religious conversion. The incident took place on 29 December in the Tukkanatti area of Gokak in Karnataka’s Belagavi district. JD(U) Party president G.M.Shaheen on Monday castigated government for selling electricity from Kashmir at exorbitant rates to outside states and exacting hefty bills from locals. Shaheen said in a statement that 40% of the total power generated by the NHPC comes from Jammu and Kashmir. In return, J&K get only 12 percent of the royalty. Shaheen said NHPC earned billions of rupees from the sale of electricity generated in the region. Protests hit Hajin, moments after the news of the killing of the local militant commander, Saleem Paray spread in his native. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that scores of people on Saturday evening raising slogans staged demonstrations in the North Kashmir's Hajin town, moments after his killing. Saleem Parray was killed during an encounter in the Shalimar area of Srinagar in a joint operation of Government Forces against the militants. One more Pakistani militant was killed during the encounter, Police said, adding, "Arms and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the duo." Saleem was active since 2017 and is believed to have escaped several cordons laid down for him. As per Police Saleem was involved in several militancy related crimes.

J&K Admin kick-starts vaccination drive for children between 15-18 years

CRPF trooper shoots himself, dead in Srinagar

A trooper shot himself dead in Kashmir capital Srinagar. It occurred inside CRPF camp in Karan Nagar Srinagar. Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a CRPF Head Constable used his service rifle and shot himself dead. He was identified as Suresh Kumar of G/49 Battalion. An unidentified militant has been killed in Gasu area of Shalimar in outskirts of Srinagar district on Monday. A senior Police officer told GNS that a militant has been killed in Shalimar by the joint team of Police and CRPF. However identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained. Inspector General of Police Kashmir range Vijay Kumar Monday said that the killing of top Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Muhammad Saleem Parray was a big success for the police as the slain was involved in dozens of killings including throat-slitting of 12 civilians in 2016. “Srinagar police cornered Saleem Paray and he opened fire.
