Afghan Forces Start Massive Offensive Against Taliban- 261 Militants Killed

The Afghan Forces have started a major offensive against Taliban in Afghanistan, in which more than 261 Taliban Militants have been killed.

On Tuesday, Tolo News reported that, Afghan forces pushed back a major attack by the Taliban on Hazrat Sultan district in the Central province of Samangan on Monday evening. The clashes continued for many hours and ended shortly after midnight.

Sixteen Taliban Militants were killed during these clashes. Taliban on Monday night claimed that they captured Hazrat Sultan district. The group has not commented on their casualties in the clashes.

Earlier 35 militants were killed following a pre-dawn airstrike in surrounding areas of Alishing district of Laghman province, the Ministry said in a statement.

In Logar province, 26 militants were killed in two separate raids on the outskirts of provincial capital Pul-e-Alam and Khoshi district on Monday night, the statement said.

The Taliban have made relentless territorial wins since mid-April, when President Joe Biden announced the last 2,500-3,500 US soldiers and 7,000 allied NATO soldiers would leave Afghanistan.

Last week, all US and NATO forces left Bagram Air Base near Kabul, the command centre of anti-Taliban operations, effectively wrapping up their exit after 20 years of military involvement that began in the wake of the September 11 attacks.

Most have left quietly already, well before the announced deadline in September.
