BJP raising Pakistan issue to mask it’s own failures, says Mehbooba

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday accused the BJP of using Pakistan as a diversion to cover up its “failures.”

Her comments came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that the PDP, National Conference (NC), and Congress were advancing Pakistan’s agenda in Jammu Kashmir.

Mehbooba responded, saying, “The BJP has failed on every front. They promised two crore jobs per year, which should have been 20 crore in 10 years. After their focus on Hindu-Muslim divisions, lynching of Muslims, and mosque demolitions, they now raise Pakistan to distract from their failures.”

The former chief minister argued that if the regional parties had indeed implemented Pakistan’s agenda, Jammu Kashmir would have become part of Pakistan. “If the Abdullah family had followed Pakistan’s agenda, J-K would not be a part of India today,” she added.

Prime Minister Modi, in a rally on Thursday, had criticized the Congress-NC alliance, accusing them of being aligned with Pakistan on Article 370 and statehood restoration for J-K. Mehbooba hit back, saying Modi should thank the regional parties, especially the Abdullah family, for J-K’s accession to India and for helping implement BJP’s agenda when Omar Abdullah served as a minister in a BJP-led government.

Mehbooba also highlighted that the BJP had approached her party on two occasions to form a government, promising that Article 370 would remain untouched and proposing dialogue with Pakistan and the Hurriyat. She questioned the BJP’s current stance, stating, “They came to us, just as they went to Omar for making him a minister. What are they talking about now?” PTI
