Jammu Kashmir government Sunday announced the closure of all schools from primary to class 9 for two weeks from April 5 and classes 10, 11 and 12 for a week from April 5 in the wake of rising Covid-19 cases in the Union Territory. “In view of the rising trend in Covid -19 cases in J&K and the likelihood of young children getting infected and transmitting infections in large numbers, all classes up to and including class 9 in schools will be closed for two weeks beginning Monday April 5 till April 18 in J&K. Amid the rising number of covid-19 cases lately, the government on Friday said that deputy Commissioners (DMs) shall take a call on keeping open or closing the schools in respective districts in Jammu Kashmir. “Decision regarding the running of physical classes vis-à-vis online classes require to be taken at district level by the Competent Authority. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has drafted a history syllabus for undergraduates that focuses more on Hindu mythology and religious texts and diminishes the importance of Muslim rule. The changes are already facing allegations of saffronisation and distortion. Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that the rooftop of the Government Middle school building in the Nowshehra area of Anantnag's Khiram collapsed during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday The Kashmiriyat got in touch with a teacher who was unavailable for comments over the issue. However, an official upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat said all the teachers and students are safe. "Nobody has been injured during the incident,"he said.

Hindi will now be implemented as the official language in the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar in Jammu Kashmir. A team of the Central Higher education department visited the institute and sought details on the progress about the work being done in Hindi. During this, Suniti Sharma, who is leading the team, was told that a separate Hindi cell has been set up in the institute in Srinagar. The Department has been requested to appoint staff on behalf of the institute.
