Shutdown Continues in North Kashmir Areas Against Militant Killings

September 14 Shabir Khan A complete shutdown is being observed on Friday in many areas of North Kashmir against the killing of Militants in the areas. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that Sopore has shut for the second consecutive day against the Militant killings, while a partial shutdown is being observed in Handwara and Langate areas for the fourth consecutive day. Two Local Militants had been killed on Tuesday in a gunfight in Kupwara and on Thursday, two Foreign Militants were killed in a gunfight in Sopore post which authorities suspended internet and closed down the schools. The business establishments in the area also remained shut while train services were also suspended. Hurriyat Calls for a Shutdown against the Killing of Hurriyat Activist

September 13 The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Geelani in a statement on Thursday Reiterating his appeal to people  to observe a complete shutdown on Friday 14 September and pay tributes to Hurriyat Activist Hakeem-ur-Rehman Sultani. He asked the people of of Sopore and Zainageer to observe shutdown against the murder of  Hurriyat Activist Hakeem-ur-Rehman Sultani on Friday. The Hurriyat Leader expressed deep and hearty condolences with the parents of Hakeem-ur-Rehman especially with his widow and five daughters and prayed for his heavenly abode and eternal peace.

Hailstorm Causes Heavy Damage to Crops in Budgam

September 13 Rayees Shah Hailstorm on Thursday afternoon caused massive damaged to rice crops, vegetables and fruits in many areas of Central Kashmir's Budgam District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that fields in areas including Beerwah, Kawoosa Khalisa, Chek e Kawoosa, Manzhama, Narbal, Magam suffered heavy damage due to the hailstorm. The hailstorm caused damage apple orchards, maize and rice fields to a great extent.

Two Affiliates of Zakir Musa Arrested in Ganderbal

September 13 Rayees Shah One local militant affiliated with Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind & an OGW were apprehended by Jammu Kashmir Police in Central Kashmir's ganderbal District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that the Militant identified as Rouf was involved in weapon snatching case at Dargah Hazratbal in Srinagar. Rouf, as per initial reports had joined Militancy five months ago. He has been taken into detention and booked under relevant sections of Law.

2 Dead Bodies Recovered from Sopore Encounter Site- Police

September 13 SHABIR KHAN Two Unidentified dead bodies have been recovered at the gunfight site in Teleyan locality of Arampora in Sopore region of North Kashmir's Baramulla District, a Police official told The Kashmiriyat. He said that the forces had conducted search operations in the area during which Militants opened fire on the forces, triggering a gunfight. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that after a gunfight of nearly five hours, the forces managed to kill two Militants holed up in a residential house. During the search operation, two bodies have been recovered and as per initial reports, one of them has been identified as Usman, a foreign Militant, however officials are yet to confirm anything. The identity of the Militants is being ascertained, an official said.

Delhi Court Grants Bail to Kashmiri Businessman in Hawala Case

September 13 Delhi High court bench of Justice S Muralidhar & Vinod Goel on Wednesday granted bail to Zahoor Ahmad Shah (Watali) and directed him to furnish a personal bail bond of Rs 2 lakh rupees with two surety of same amount & submit his passport. Zahoor had  been arrested by NIA last year in August and was lodged in Tihar jail since his arrest. Earlier Photojournalist Kamran Yousuf and a Kulgam youth Javed Ahmad Bhat who were also arrested by the NIA were granted bail by the court earlier this year. Others still under detention after being arrested by NIA include Shabir Shah and Nayeem Khan.

September 13 Prominent Pro Freedom leader and the founder of Islamic Students League, Shakeel Ahmed Bakshi has been taken into detention by Forces in Srinagar. Sources informed The Kashmiriyat that Police raided the house of Bakshi on Tuesday in Bemina and arrested him post which he was lodged at police station in Batamaloo. Shakeel Bakshi was first arrested in 1975 when he participated in a General Strike for 'political rights' in Kashmir. September 13 Shabir Khan Two Militants have been killed during a gunfight at Teleyan in Sopore area of  North Kashmir's Baramulla District on Thursday.
