Two persons including school peon were shot at and injured after suspected militants fired upon them in Wanihama Dialgam area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on thrusday evening.   A senior police officer told GNS that militants fired upon two persons including non-local school peon from close range. Both have been shifted to nearby hospital for treatment.   Their status of health wasn't available at the time of this story was being filed.   Meanwhile forces have cordoned off whole area to nab the attackers.(GNS)

Four-laning of Srinagar-Jammu national highway to be completed by 2025: Official

The widening of Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, would be completed by 2025, an official said. Project Director and Regional Officer National Highway Authority of India Purshottam Kumar told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that there are different packages in the national highway and every package has different deadlines. He cited the example of Banhial sector saying it is divided in three parts with different deadlines. The work on the last portion was started in August this year and it is to be completed in three years, so the whole national highway four-laning will be completed by August 2025. Infiltrator killed along LoC in Poonch, Op ongoing: Army

Army on Thursday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid by killing one militant along Line of Control in Poonch district. “At about 1000 hours, the alert soldiers of the Indian Army observed suspicious movement of some individuals along the Line of Control in the Poonch sector (JK), wherein they were trying to infiltrate across the Line of Control, into the Indian side,” defence ministry based spokesman said in a statement to GNS. “The alert troops challenged the infiltrators and the (militants) fired on own troops ,” he said, adding, “In the ensuing fire fight, One (militant) body has been recovered along with Two AK -47 Rifles, One Pistol and other war like stores”. The operation continues and the search of the area is under progress, he added. (GNS)

Daughter scheduled to marry next week; father dies in Bandipora boat capsize incident

A 45-year-old man died while other two were rescued after they were drowned in Wullar Lake in Laharwalpora area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Wednesday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the man identified as Javeed Ahmed Dar son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Baniyari area of Bandipora drowned to death while two others were rescued by the locals and police. He said that the trio were carrying willow twigs when the boat they were riding suddenly sank near Neechyeeir Nallah in Banyari village of the district. 167 militants killed in 2022 so far, 134 active in Kashmir: Government

The number of foreign militants in Jammu Kashmir has increased in the past year, a report of the Home Ministry of India has revealed. The report said that 134 militants are active in Jammu Kashmir, Of these, 83 are foreign and 51 are locals. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also claimed that 167 militants have been killed in the Valley so far this year, out of which 41 are foreigners and 126 are locals. A girl was raped by a person on a marriage pretext in a hotel in Jewel Jammu district on Wednesday. Reliable sources told Kashmir News Apex-(KNA) that a girl lodged a complaint with Police Station Nowabad stating that a person identified as Raman, a resident of Tehsil Bishnah made physical relations with her in a hotel in Jewel on the pretext of marriage but later refused. Danishwar Hameed The Residents of Baswatoo area in Kulgam district's Damhal Hanjipora expressed anguish over the loosely hanging electric wires in the area stating that it posed a great threat to the local residents. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat the locals said that despite several appeals the Power Development Department (PDD) has failed to address the issue for a long time. "The electric transformer is at the ground level and the wires are loosely hanging against the trees instead of electric poles, which poses a great threat to the locals of the area," a local resident said.
